Dominus Napa 2006

Member Review by gypsyvanneraddict:

A truly wonderful, sexy wine. What perfume! I found this wine at the Charleston Palace Hotel Late Night JAzz at the Charleston Grill and enjoyed it with magnificent Jazz and a fine assortment of international cheeses. It is a special wine because it tastes exactly as it smells, veils of flavor ooh and it gets better the longer you Aerate, but don't have to for too long.... ooh and the finish is so lovely, it’s like kissing. At about 100-140 dollars a bottle; it's an opportunity to try something very sensual.

Dominus Estate is owned by Christian Moueix from Libourne, France. His goal, supported by the team at the winery, is to produce great wine representing the unique terroir of the Napanook vineyard. Our philosophy is very traditional—that is, in order to produce great wine we need the best possible grapes. Therefore, we concentrate our efforts in the vineyard. The vines are meticulously manicured—we believe in crop-thinning, "nettoyage," washing the grapes, and other labor-intensive activities. During each visit to California, Christian Moueix spends most of his time in the vineyard, not only because he loves it, but also to better understand the natural expression of the vintage. Following the maturation of the clusters allows us to harvest the grapes under the best conditions. When the fruit enters the cellar after harvest, it follows a natural process of fermentation with few interventions. Our approach is that of a minimalist's. Following fermentation, the wine is blended in a manner that expresses the natural qualities of the fruit, not forced into a style with preconceived notions. Read less

This is the proprietary blend of this estate in the heart of the Napa Valley. Created by Christian Moueix of Libourne, France, Dominus was created to show off the unique terroir of the Napanook vineyard. Layers of complexity, chewy tannins, and notes of dark chocolate and cassis make this a memorable wine.

There are 6,500 cases of the superb 2006 Dominus (91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot). Its dark plum purple color is accompanied by aromas and flavors of truffles, forest floor, black cherries, black currants, and Asian spices. One of the finest wines of the vintage, it is complete, full-bodied, and seamlessly built with beautiful ripe tannins, low acidity, and a luscious, layered mouthfeel. The aromatics are even more evolved and complex than the 2005's. The 2006 should drink well for 20-25 years.
