Dominus Estate Proprietary Red Napa Valley 2011
Editorial Reviews for Dominus Estate Proprietary Red Napa Valley
Clean and pure on the nose with a nice edge of vegetal funk up front and background notes of smoke and oak all over a very cassis driven core. This is decidedly varietal on the nose but note very California. In the mouth this is pretty soft with some fairly dry tannins still making their presence known. The fruit is soft and subtle with some dark, dried fruit notes that lead to a cinnamonny finish. Overall this promised more than it delivered and was rather dry and graceless. I have had better bottles of this, but they were all in the past. My last experience with this unfortunately mirrored this one. 84pts
Tried this - A long time ago .... not sure about the year but overall was one of my favorites in my collection!
Rich and balanced like a $100 bottle should be. One of the best California can offer.
Just gone past its best. Muted Christmas pudding nose with some dusty fruit. Decanting opened up. A bit of cherry/plum fruit plus coconut and cinnamon on palate. Still some tannin but not enough fruit to support. I actually still quite like it and the finish is long.
a consistent effort from Dominus. dark purple. perfume of fruit. full body. sweet tannin.

The historic Napanook Vineyard, one of the oldest vineyards in the Napa Valley that has been in production since the late 19th century is the home of Christian Moueix' Dominus. Located in the heart of Napa Valley, Dominus is an iconic wine that never lacks for bold intensity and power. Antonio Galloni scored this 94 saying "Savory herbs, menthol, smoke and licorice are some of the aromas that open up in the glass in the 2011 Dominus. This is a relatively immediate, expressive Dominus with plenty of near-term appeal. The style is open and succulent for the year, with lovely balance and poise. Crushed rose petals and dried herbs linger in the close. With time in the glass, the 2011 fleshes out nicely. In 2011 Dominus is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc." Dominus Estate is a check-list item for collectors. Highly lauded by wine critics and wine enthusiasts alike, this proprietary blend of Cabernet and Cabernet Franc is complex, dense, and incredibly age-worthy.
The 2009 Dominus flows from the glass with layers of highly expressive fruit. The wine possesses stunning richness, power and depth. Dark red fruit, tobacco, flowers and spices are woven into a seamless, beautifully articulated finish. Elegance and intensity are in perfect harmony here. This is a thrilling wine from Dominus. The blend is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. - Robert Parker 97+ Points (blended with 10% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot): Good ruby-red color, more saturated than the Napanook. Knockout floral lift to the aromas of black raspberry, blueberry, blond tobacco, almond and mint. Suave, savory and extremely precise, with penetrating flavors of dark berries, licorice, minerals and cocoa powder. The petit verdot component acts as an amplifier of aromas and flavors, notes winemaker Tod Mostero, "like a good seasoning." Medicinal in a Bordeaux way. The finishes sho...
