Dominus Estate Proprietary Red Napa Valley 2011
Editorial Reviews for Dominus Estate Proprietary Red Napa Valley
Clean and pure on the nose with a nice edge of vegetal funk up front and background notes of smoke and oak all over a very cassis driven core. This is decidedly varietal on the nose but note very California. In the mouth this is pretty soft with some fairly dry tannins still making their presence known. The fruit is soft and subtle with some dark, dried fruit notes that lead to a cinnamonny finish. Overall this promised more than it delivered and was rather dry and graceless. I have had better bottles of this, but they were all in the past. My last experience with this unfortunately mirrored this one. 84pts
Tried this - A long time ago .... not sure about the year but overall was one of my favorites in my collection!
Rich and balanced like a $100 bottle should be. One of the best California can offer.
Just gone past its best. Muted Christmas pudding nose with some dusty fruit. Decanting opened up. A bit of cherry/plum fruit plus coconut and cinnamon on palate. Still some tannin but not enough fruit to support. I actually still quite like it and the finish is long.
a consistent effort from Dominus. dark purple. perfume of fruit. full body. sweet tannin.

The historic Napanook Vineyard, one of the oldest vineyards in the Napa Valley that has been in production since the late 19th century is the home of Christian Moueix' Dominus. Located in the heart of Napa Valley, Dominus is an iconic wine that never lacks for bold intensity and power. Antonio Galloni scored this 94 saying "Savory herbs, menthol, smoke and licorice are some of the aromas that open up in the glass in the 2011 Dominus. This is a relatively immediate, expressive Dominus with plenty of near-term appeal. The style is open and succulent for the year, with lovely balance and poise. Crushed rose petals and dried herbs linger in the close. With time in the glass, the 2011 fleshes out nicely. In 2011 Dominus is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc." Napanook is a blend of bordeaux varietals specifically selected from the estate vineyard for their lively fruit and bold character. Napanook wines are youthful and exuberant, meant to be enjoyed regularly when a more casual wine is called for.
Dominus Estate is a check-list item for collectors. Highly lauded by wine critics and wine enthusiasts alike, this proprietary blend of Cabernet and Cabernet Franc is complex, dense, and incredibly age-worthy.
This perennial favorite received a near-perfect score from Robert Parker and is sure to disappear in a jiffy! Made in a more masculine style, the 2008 Dominus has all of that along with bigger body and more structure, fat, density and texture.

Winemaker Notes - The source for the wines is the historic Napanook Vineyard, one of the oldest vineyards in the Napa Valley that has been in production since the late 19th century. Pre-Sell Offer. Order today, wine will be shipped in late January 2011. Christian Moueix, owner of one of Bordeaux most iconic properties, Chateau Petrus, came to Napa Valley with the desire to produce the best red wine in the valley. Dominus is the result and vintage after vintage it excels, reaping awards, accolades and rave reviews. This is your opportunity to secure the 2007 Dominus before it arrives. It will be shipped in late January. Robert Parker scored the 2007 98 points and said "The soon-to-be-released 2007 Dominus is a 5,400-case blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. It is ironic that Christian Moueix, the practitioner of utterly profound Merlot-based wines from St.-Emilion and Pomerol, eschews Merlot from his Napa vineyard, recognizing that it is Cabernet Sauvignon, and to a lesser extent Cabernet Franc, that hits the high notes in Napa. A prodigious example of Dominus, the 2007 represents a hypothetical blend of a Pomerol, Pauillac, and a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep ruby/purple-colored with a sweet nose of incense, cedar wood, black currants, black cherries, licorice, and a subtle hint of roasted herbs, it is an expansive, savory, opulent wine with a full-bodied mouthfeel, silky tannins, and sensational concentration. A legend in the making, it should evolve for 25-30 years, possibly longer given the fact that his vintages from the early eighties are still going strong, and the wines today are better made given Moueix-s Napa experience and the estate winery he did not have 25 years ago."
