New Cepas Viejas, new technology, knowledge and passion for the wine is the presentation card of Dominio de Tares. Far away from foreigner varieties and focusing our efforts in the native Mencía and Godello varieties, we have brought out surprising wines because of their equilibrium and elegance; wines that cradled in noble woods fulfil our satisfaction. The tendering of an ancient vineyard, with vines rooted in the heart of the Bierzo; the manual harvest, cluster by cluster; and the time passing by the juice sleeping in French and American barrels, confer our wines with unique traits in the Spanish wine panorama. Our working philosophy, concentrating in the continuous effort to become better; and the commitment to our clients and consumers sums up the soul of this winery, founded in the year 2000. Founded only in 2000, Dominio de Tares was started by a group of young individuals from Bierzo, only one of whom, Amancio Fernandez, a highly acclaimed winemaker, was previously involved in wine. Despite the seeming lack of experience, they have become one of the region's leading producers. Their focus is on making wine from old vine Mencia grown high in the hills. Producing 500,000 bottles annually from 200 acres (75 acres of their own vineyards, and 125 acres leased), they are one of the largest in the region. Pedro Gonzalez replaced Fernandez as technical director (winemaker) two years ago. Read less

Drink now, fading quick. The wine is light and pleasant in the mouth with a nice mouthfeel. Flavors of mixed spices, and earth along with a cranberry/ cherry backbone. Not a bad wine but I'm glad don't have any others. 3/5 [NR]

Deep ruby purple color. Clean nose with anise, mint a bit of earth. Under it all I catch a faint wiff of bacon fat and deep berry aromas, seems a bit wound up. Medium weight in the mouth at first with a racy acidity and a tannic presence on the finish. Rich flavors of earth, anise, blackberries though it seems a bit too tight and might benefit from some more time open...Even within a half hour, begins to show more fruit on the palate with a light pepper light quality on the tail end. Fun wine and I'm sure it would be nice with some lamb or wild game. (50)+5+12+16+7=90pts [90]
