Dominio de Atuata Tempranillo 2000

Member Review by RPerro:

I was a bit worried about this one, as the CT drinking window closed last year. I shouldn't have been. Although this wine is clearly nearing the end of its drinkable life, there is still plenty of well-integrated fruit, acidty and tannin to carry it another year or two. Having loved the 2004 when had at a Las Vegas steakhouse last year, I couldn't pass this one up. Pop & pour. A very old world earthy nose, with red raspberry fruit and lots of minerals. On the attack, earthy raspberries, with nice acidity that follows to a chewy berry pie component on the mid-palate. Finish is average length, with very light tannins, and just a hint of bitterness at the end. Overall, I'm quite impressed with this wine. It is nowhere near the 2004 that I loved from Vegas...much softer, and I prefer my wines a tad on the wild side. That said, it is very enjoyable to drink.

Dominio de Atauta:
One of the principle characteristics of Atauta is the great height of the vineyard situated at 950 to 1,000 metres above sea-level which allows maturing to lake place more slowly. During the weeks prior to the harvest, the temperature change between day and night of up to 25 degrees C gives a greater range of aromas with more character. The Tinto Pino variety of grape predominates as the Tcmpranillo in the Ribera del Duero is known.
