Jammy fruits greet the nose then a fine vegetal tone of ripe Cabernet franc, light chili notes and interesting nuances of baking clay and balsamic woods join in. Light and elegant in the mouth, the fruit is jewel like with fine precision and a mouth cleansing quality. Really fine balance to the polished tannins and ripe acidity that supports dark cherry fruit that is dusted with bitter cocoa and almond. The finish has good length and continues the bitter/sweet tension found in the mouth. The fruit here is really lovely and faceted, gem like. 91pts

Tanzer IWC July 2006 2005 Bodega Dominio Buenavista/Veleta Wines Noladas Vino de la Tierra Contraviesa Alpujarra ($14; a blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and tempranillo) Inky ruby. Vanilla-accented kirsch and blackberry on the nose, with complicating cracked pepper and violet qualities. Sweet dark berry flavors veer toward jammy but are firmed by dusty tannins. Finishes with clinging dark fruit flavors and good spicy persistence. 88

Winemaker's Notes:

Nolados 2005 Varietal: 40% Cab. Sauvignon 40% Cab. Franc and 20% Tempranillo Harvest: End of September 2005 Region/Appellation: Estate grown at Dominio Buenavista, Vino de la Tierra Contraviesa / Alpujarra, Granada, Spain Appearance: Intense dark purple garnet. Aroma: Lovely. Low-key red-berry nose, vanilla and noble woods Flavor: Silky, elegant, smooth, with fine supple palate and a surprising zing of acidity at the center of all the plush fruit. Subtle oak notes, enhancing rich fruit—echoing the nose—but the concentration and good balance augur 5-7 years of positive development in the cellar. Balanced with touches of minerals and flowers on the aftertaste. Finish: Some chunky tannin in finish accompanied by licorice flavors and a long mineral end. Excellent acidity that provides life and freshness. Wood: Twelve months in American & French oak barrels Alcohol: 13.5% TA: 5.93 pH: 3.32 Price: $14.99 Ohio retail market Quantity Produced: 625 cases Awards: Silver Medal, Cincinnati Wine Festival, USA, March 2008 Best 200 wines of Spain, Sumilleres 2008
