Domenico Clerico Nebbiolo Blend Langhe DOC Arte 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Nebbiolo, Barbera: Stephen Tanzer 91 points "Good bright, full red. Plum, tobacco and cedary, nutty oak on the nose, with some earthy low tones. Sweeter and lusher than the 2005, with broad plum and oak flavors of impressive richness. A big boy with a long, sweet finish featuring very fine tannins."

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

A rich, modern style of Barolo with lots of intensity on the nose and palate. Flavors of licorice, spice, and forward dark fruit abound here. A Barolo that will benefit from a few years in the cellar but can also be drunk young.

Good medium red. Exotic, exhilarating aromas of sappy red berry liqueur and woodsmoke. Wonderfully sweet on entry, then superripe and liqueur-like in the middle palate, with an utterly suave texture over firm supporting spine. Finishes impressively long and sweet, with serious but noble tannins. There's nothing especially austere or forbidding about this extremely rich Barolo.

The 2000 Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra is even warmer and sweeter in aroma with sensations of cinnamon and sandalwood, roses and plums. As potent as the Pajana, it balances the richness of the extraction with more velvet and suppleness, greater depth, and a longer, more complete finish. Drink 2005-2020.

Good deep red. Knockout nose combines red fruits, rose petal, brown spices and camphor, with a slight medicinal reserve. Pure, silky and sweet, offering incredible subtle intensity of flavor. This coats every millimeter of the palate without leaving ... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. A Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont in Italy. 2004 Domenico Clerico Barolo Per Cristina 750ml

The 2004 Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra sweeps across the palate with stunning depth and expansiveness in its dark cherries, menthol, spices, chocolate and sweet toasted oak. It offers exceptional length and delineation, with a note of freshness that provides lift on the close. It is a profound effort from Domenico Clerico. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024.

The richly-colored 2001 Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra opens with an unmistakable Ginestra nose of menthol, eucalyptus, spices and minerals. It is dense and structured, showing plenty of ripe dark cherry fruit, licorice, tar and toasted oak flavors, with exceptional length and substance on the palate, and closing with an inviting, beautiful, lingering finish that makes you want to come back to the wine time and again. Clerico's Ciabot Mentin Ginestra was one of the first Barolos that really captivated my attention and for me it remains this producer's most representative wine. It is a superb achievement and one of the highlights of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021.

Subtle and perfumed, with blackberry, truffle and hints of Spanish cedar. Full-bodied, with superfine tannins and a long, caressing finish. Balanced and very pretty. Best after 2012.
