Domaines Barons de Rothschild Cabernet Sauvignon Los Vascos 2004
A good year in terms of weather conditions. Although moderate rainfall during the winter and spring fostered good fruit concentration, temperatures from December through March were rather high. These conditions resulted in high sugar content in the grapes.The growing period developed under dry climatic conditions.
After 30 mins: still slight hot in the nose, but lots of cherries, earth and power there too. In the mouth, a nice fruity wine - decent backbone and structure. Nice acidity and strong tannins. A very fruity wine, with a decent finish for the price. Powerful finish of chocolate and licorice. I'm a big fan.
Reddish-black, with dull ruby edges. Sage, marjoram, and rancid butter nose. Stems, nettles, earth and tar, a bit of mint, but no identifiable fruit. Bitter and sour, leaving more of an aftertaste than a finish. A real disappointment, as some reviews identified it as a great wine for the dollars.
Super restrained and closed nose - dead, with only a hint of medicinal plum. More going on with the taste - integrated light pencil lead, still fruit. Smooth, medium fine-textured tannins. Balanced acidity. Blueberry and black cherries. Still life left in this?
