What to Expect

Riesling is a chameleon of a grape, able to produce world class wines that range from bone dry to unctuously sweet. Germany is most closely associated with Riesling, where all styles are made and the range of flavors runs the gamut from steely and crisp with crunchy mineral-driven flavors to fresh lime, apple and peach flavored expressions - even rich honied, candied fruit tones in the great dessert wines.

Winemakers Notes

This famous Riesling comes from the choice slopes of Ribeauvillé overlooking the Trimbach winery. The exposure is south and southeast. The vines' high average age of some 30 years ensures low yields and concentrated fruit. The clay-limestone soil contains a high proportion of fossil-flecked muschel-kalk, which bangs out all that is best in the Riesling.

Cuvée Frédéric Emile is made solely frm very ripe grapes, picked selectively at the end of the harvest. Dry and firmly-structured, but very fruity, this multifaceted wine owes its great depth of flavour to the combination read more...

Editorial Reviews

Big and bright on the nose with lime and pink grapefruit notes that are backed up by powdery stone and emerging petrol notes. Very ripe in the mouth yet unevolved. A touch ungainly and unusually rich so it lacks a little precision. The finish is long and acid driven with a fair amount of petrol belying it's age. 2008-2018 89pts

This Riesling is drinking wonderfully today and if you can believe it, it was just released from the Trimbach winery. They hold their top cuvées until deemed ready for consumption. This shows some evolution with the classic "petrol" characteristic. The fruit is unctuous, dry with juicy acidity.

Medium lemon with hints of green, tears. Petrol, minerals, peaches and apples on the nose. Stony and iodine notes. Bone dry, high acidity, med. + alcohol, med. + body. Apples and citrus on the palate. Very good. Lovely balance between levels of acidity and ripeness of fruit. Can age for up to 20 years.
