- Jean-Paul Tollot describes the 2001reds as more elegant and clearly finer than the 2000s and it is a vintage of finesse rather than power with good expressiveness. He also noted that to make good wine, it was necessary to do careful triage work and not to extract too much tannin, in particular green tannins. We shortened our cuvaisons by several days because we wanted to be sure not to unbalance the wines, he explained. The wines were bottled in January. When considered as a group, this is as good a vintage as I've seen in quite a while from Tollot-Beaut. (Diageo Château and Estate, New York, read more...NY). Very ripe, in fact almost post mature fruit with aromas of fig and dates lead to supple, easy, forward, middle weight flavors that offer good power for a Beaune 1er and there is enough underlying acidity to balance off most of the ripeness.
