This wine was very tight when opened (and I'm not talking about the cork...). We decanted for 4 hours before tasting. We were greeted with black fruits such as dark cherry, blackberry, and blueberry, with hints of smoked fat. This is an intense wine with balanced tannins and high acidity. Another couple hours in and then again in a follow-up tasting the following day, notes of toffee, licorice and tar had developed nicely. Others have referred to a certain savage nature to this wine that we did not find in this vintage, but rather a character of luscious elegance seemed to dominate. After the tasting, we served with Rack of lamb and garlic potatoes. We kept things rather rustic with this dish, and the pairing was spot on. --Wineshout.com

I took this bottle to Valentine's dinner last night and it was singing! Fresh on the nose with bright, dripping red fruits marked with cracked pepper. As I worked with it a little more hints of smoke stack started to appear. As I hoped, the bottle offered some beautiful earthy funk. I would rank it "Parliament with George Clinton" funk. The bright tannins played perfectly with my duck entree. Crisp and lively but incredibly balanced acid. After a glass or so a beautiful, sneaky scent of tanned leather started to peak out. An awesome experience with Provençal wine!

The "La Migoua" vineyard site is planted mostly with the Mourvèdre grape variety. As expected, this is a full-bodied red wine that's plump with dark berries and spice. Domaine Tempier Bandols are always age-worthy.
