Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Monogram 2003
The enticing nose displays a complex array of cherry pie, raspberry cordial, marionberry, dried orange peel, caramel, vanilla and allspice. The palate delivers intense black raspberry, elderberry, pomegranate, rose petal, sassafras, oak spice and fine-grained tannins. The result is a wine possessing incredible power, length and complexity.
Picked up this '03 on a whim (half price) to see if it was still tasting good. Normally, well made whites will stand the test of time and this one definitely has. A little scary at first since the cork split in half on opening but the wine itself is excellent. A mature chardonnay, light honey colored with a bit of a musty nose, the flavors mainly hit the mid palate with oak and subdued lemon/creme brulee. Interesting to taste a good chardonnay that has some age on it.
Blackberry, plum, high acidity. Most notable for being very well balanced. Nothing stunning about this wine, but very well-made.
just opened a bottle this evening. Heaven - still very balanced. Glad they have a dotCal Calendar so I csn go to the tastings.
