Editorial Reviews for Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve
Tight on the nose with almond shell top notes and slow to emerge raspberry, sour cherry and cranberry fruit topped with hints of candied orange. Very elegant if a touch tight on entry, this quickly shows a bit of nutty oak along with a focused core of small, sour red fruits framed with dried spice notes. The wood tannins arrive on the mid-palate to tighten things up and accentuate a bit of wood spice that flows onto the finish, which is almost peppery and long with wild red berry fruits. The oak is a bit prominent here both texturally and in terms of flavor, but the underlying wine should emerge intact after a year or two in the cellar. 91pts
There's some obvious oak on the nose here along with a creamy base note upon which aromas of green apples, tart citrus and earthy nutty tones are layered. This is fabulous int he mouth with a great burst of ripe yet fresh fruit framed out with a bit of toasty and buttery oak but the wine remains bright, tense and light on its feet in the mouth. The wood treatment is well balanced for the fresh fruit with the tartness and slight hardness of the wine well balanced by the softening effects of the wood. Should improve over the short term at least but shows a fine synthesis of old world technique with new world fruit. 93pts
Gorgeously open nose of spice, herb and red fruit. In the mouth this is sleek and well-balanced with a lightly layered sweetness of wood and fruit. The wood spice pops on the back end along with black cherry pit fruit and mineral spice. Nice length with a touch of wood on the tapering finish. 89pts
This shows off some rich clay soil tones right off the bat, and then adds notes of soft, barrel aged wood tones to the soft core of dried peach and apple fruit. On entry it shows good acid, but also a rather soft, expansive gently toasty, nutty core of fruit. The mid-palate is slightly hollow with plenty of toasty wood tones supporting modest, vanilla tinged, green apple and pineapple fruits. The finish really shows great length with a nice layered feel and good, emerging complexity. At its core it’s a soft, subtle wine, with an edge of delicacy to it making it a good match for a simple herb and lemon scented roast chicken. 90pts
The nose here is marred by VA and beyond that is a complex yet unappealing array of old, stale aromas. Broad, full and simple on the palate with huge dark cherry fruit presented in a clumsy, ungainly package. Defective bottle I hope.

Toasty hazelnut and fresh apple pie on the nose. Crisp and with some poached pear nuance. On the palate, it has a supple texture, spicy flavors and good depth and balance. Oak spice, créme bruleé and custard. Good acidity. Really nice wine. -93 points 4/7/12
An intense PN with jammy red fruit and hints on petrol on the nose and a tease of radish, figs and caramel culminating in an off dry, acidic finish.
A great, bold, muscular style. Nice! 93 pts. -Wine Spectator Grand Tour 5/5/12

Aged 13 months in French oak, this 2011 scored 91 points from Wine Enthusiast Magazine who said ""Light and elegantly crafted, this iconic release is the textbook example of well-made cool-vintage Oregon Pinot Noir. It’s aromatic, floral and sillky. The tangy berry fruit is clean and ripe, though definitely on the lighter side. Pretty berry and cherry flavors are set against tart acids, with just a touch of milk chocolate from barrel aging." Limited!
Beautiful aromas of dark cherry, red raspberry, pipe tobacco, milk chocolate, pomegranate and earth. The palate is rich and supple, showing black raspberry, cherry pie, black currant, rose, violet and oak spice with a persistent and seamless finish.
Shows a harmonious balance of structure, richness and acidity with soft tannins and a clean, lingering finish. With clonal variation and site driven diversity, we are able to craft this wine to our precise and exacting standards year after year.
Firm in texture, featuring mildly chewy tannins around the butterscotch-accented blackberry flavors. Finishes with refinement. Best from 2013 through 2017. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.
The Serene 2009 Pinot Noir Yamhill Cuvée offers sweeter red berry flavors than does the corresponding 2010, with brown spice accents and nicely integrated tannic chew. Pure-fruited and with ample finishing juiciness, this betrays none of its vintage’s weak sides and ought to drink well for another several years.
Sometimes in a challenging vintage such as 2009, it is the least expensive, blended wines that benefit most, perhaps because grapes normally destined for the single-vineyard wines are redirected. Here, rich fruit flavors highlighted with streaks of caramel and toffee get things rolling quickly. Berries and cherries, firm acids, pretty spice and a lingering butterscotch finish.
