A blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, and 5% Cinsault from 70- to 105-year-old vines, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve des Vieilles Vignes was aged in both foudre and small oak. A beautiful effort, it exhibits a saturated dark ruby/purple hue along with notes of blueberries, black raspberries, black currants, licorice, graphite, and forest floor. Full-bodied, layered, and rich with good acids as well as sweet, velvety tannins, this cuvee is filled with substance and elegance. Drink it over the next 12-15 years. Ruby-red. Exotic scents of black raspberry, mulberry, smoky herbs and Indian spices, plus a wild note of apricot pit. Creamy dark berry compote flavors are framed by supple tannins and complemented by notes of candied flowers and fruitcake. The finish leaves traces of flowers, smoke and sweet berries behind, eventually. This is surprisingly approachable: thered be no harm in taking a bottle for a spin now. Muscular, with a briary edge to the black cher...

Deep ruby. Intensely perfumed aromas of red and dark berry preserves, sexy gingerbread, anise and vanilla. Sweet raspberry, blackberry and cherry-vanilla flavors boast impressive depth and clarity, with firm but harmonious tannins adding grip. Turns spicier on the finish but maintains a remarkably sexy, fruit-dominated personality. Has the material to age but this is awfully delicious now. - Stephen Tanzer 94 PointsOffers loads of iron grip, but the core of wonderfully pure blackberry and black currant fruit is an ample foil, while graphite and black tea flavors and velvety tannins rumble through the finish. Serious juice. Best from 2011 through 2024. JM - Wine Spectator Magazine 93 PointsThe 2005 Reserve des Vieilles Vignes is a Chateauneuf du Pape built for the longer haul (for example, the 1998 Reserve des Vieilles Vignes is still aging slowly). Full-bodied, backward, and unevolved, this wine will certainly be even better by the time its in bottle. Deep ruby/purple to the rim, with a classic, but tight nose of crushed black cherry and jammy raspberries, a bit of incense, spice box, and pepper, it is full-bodied, powerful, with good acidity and moderately high tannins. This wine will take some time to resolve its tannin but should be at its best between 2009 and 2022+. - Robert Parker 90-93+ Points** Only 10 in Stock **
