Domaine Rocquemoliere Picpoul de Pinet 2014

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from a shop in London's Kensington [www.nicolas.co.uk] for £10.Picpoul is a grape variety [ which comes in red and white versions although the white is far more common ] grown in Languedoc. It is susceptible to fungus and has low yeilds although it can do well in sandy soils so it is not widely used. Picpoul de Pinet is an appellation created in 1985 for white wines made of this grape from six communes in Languedoc near the small coastal town of Sete 20 miles west of Montpellier. My bottle comes from the Ormarine co-operative group. It is not mentioned on their website but my enquires have revealed that 'Domaine Roquemoliere' is an alternative label for their 'Carte Noire' cuvee. It is 100% picpoul .I started my bottle last night with my supper of spiced smoked herring and I did enjoy it.It is a dry wine. There is an acidic citrus style fruit although there are also notes of melon and peach.Picpoul de Pinet is sometimes described as the 'lipstinger wine 'and this phrase is definitely apropriate for my bottle. In short, this is a very nice dry white wine which went well with the fish
