Domaine Rieflé Gewurztraminer Steinert Grand Cru 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

The Rieflé family have been making wine for three centuries. The winery lies in Pfaffenheim in the Haut-Rhin where François Rieflé made the family’s first wines in the early 18th century. The region’s dry microclimate and calcium-rich soils give the wines great power and tremendous length: these are top quality white wines which are delicately aromatic and elegant. The Grand Cru Steinert, reputed since 1150, is the steepest vineyard in Pfaffenheim. Its sub-soil, particularly dry and filtering, is very largely limestone and gives the wines their mineral notes. This wonderfully elegant wine is a beautiful golden colour, boasting a complex and subtle nose, with a very beautiful expression of fruits (grapefruit and lychee) but also of rose and spices. In the mouth, you'll experience a cascade of beautiful sensations, rose, lychee, but also peppery notes. This is a savoury and powerful wine with a good persistence. This wine is designed to be enjoyed as an aperitif or with fine cuisine such as foie gras, exotic dishes, or with a passion-fruit and coconut mousse, or apricot or rhubarb tarts.

A Domaine Rieflé wine is first and foremost the light, freshness and inimitable bouquet of a northern limestone terroir with a warm and sunny climate. But it's also the pleasure of the men and women who live here and who share their enthusiasm for these special Alsace wines. The specialist's know-how guarantees the preservation of the fruit and its most subtle aromas. Above and beyond the year-long meticulous labours in the vineyard parcels, the harvests that take place between the beautiful days of September and the frosts of December, Domaine Rieflé's wines are distinguished by the precision and attention brought to them in the cellar.
