Deep purple core with a fushcia rim. Initially this is tightly wound, but then reveals plenty of high-toned aromas including floral, red fruits, and crushed rock. With time in the glass this really opens up nicely with layers of black and blue fruits... Geoffrey Binder. The American importer produces a slightly different blend called Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Girard, and the 2009 and 2010 are essentially identical in quality. The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Girard reveals slightly more meatiness and garrigue notes than the 2009, but the two wines are similar in every other aspect. Full-bodied, rich and pure, it, like the 2009, will evolve over the next 10–15 years.

Bright violet color. Spicy dark berries, anise and musky tobacco on the highly perfumed nose. Nicely concentrated flavors of bitter cherry and cassis are complicated by candied licorice and dark chocolate. Chewy and precise on the finish, which shows subtle sweetness and a lingering cherry pit flavor. I suspect that this wine will be even better with a couple more years of bottle age.

(Vigne Centenaires) The profound 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Imperiale-Vigne Centenaires (made from the same blend as the 2009) is stunning. Dense purple to the rim with an extraordinary perfume of blackberries, black cherry liqueur, licorice and... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition (80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre and the rest Syrah, Cinsault and Counoise) is a beauty. The Tradition has slightly more Mourvedre in the final blend than the Cuvee Girard. Both are dark ruby/purple-colored, full-bo... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Imperiale is one of the great wines of the vintage. A blend of 90% Grenache and the rest Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Counoise, Muscardin, and Terret Noir from vines well over 100 years of age, planted in pure sand, ... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
