- As I reported in Issue 23, I had a scheduling difficulty last February and missed including the Ramonet '04s therein. However, because many readers wrote to inquire, I was, happily, able to make arrangements to taste them at my home office in December. Note that I have combined both the reds and whites below. (Diageo Château and Estate, New York, NY; Corney & Barrow, Farr Vintners, O.W. Loeb, La Réserve and Howard Ripley, all UK). Like a number of wines in the range, this is distinctly oaked and unusually so not only for Ramonet but this wine in particularly, which along with the Caillerets read more...is consistently my favorite 1er. Toasty if not overwhelming wood plays tug-of-war with the notably ripe and opulent nose of citrus and acacia blossom that dissolves into exceptionally rich and plump flavors that are both quite ripe and concentrated in the context of the vintage. While this stops short of being heavy, it is generous and the wood shows up in force on the finish. (hide)
