Shared on Thanksgiving and won't ever be forgotten Truly a remarkable French wine. Aged in personal cellar for 3 years.
Have not tasted yet.
The nose is big but simple at first as all I could detect was black strap molasses. With time in glass sweet and rich smells of spice cookie, cinnamon gram cracker and black currant began to rise from the glass. The palate was like velvet on the front palate that turned searing acidity on the mid and showed cherry cough syrup, fig newton and milk chocolate. The finish tasted of burnt sugar. BUT, through all of this, the wine tasted more like a cocktail that anything else. THe overdone sweet verse alcohol was too much and some sips would literally leave the burning aftertaste of alcohol behind on the palate as if you'd just taken a shot of vodka. It was all T & A without any brains, good for a one night stand but do you really want to take it home and watch it age?
Getting some nice black licorice, cherry pie, and some asian spices. Tasty, but still not on par with my expectations of a GOOD CdP.
Super dense and massive. A touch hot at the end.

This is electric, with charged-up, vivid blueberry, fig, blackberry and boysenberry fruit all drenched in pastis and toasted spice and backed by a licorice snap note that lets the finish flow on beautifully. A gorgeous base cuvee that oozes Grenache flair, the 2010 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre, and 5% Cinsault that sees no new oak, offers up hedonistic, perfumed aromas of kirsch liqu... 90-92 points "The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape (80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault) is another top-notch effort. The wine is aged in tank (60%), foudre (30%) and 1- to 4-year-old small barrels (10%). Sweet raspberry, black currant, and cherry fruit intermixed with licorice, lavender and tobacco leaf jump from the glass of this perfumed 2009. With outstanding ripeness, a plush, evolved mouthfeel and sweet tannins, this beauty is already complex and delicious. It should age well for 7-8 years." Wine Advocate, #191 Oct 2010, Robert Parker 89-91 points "Ruby-red. Subdued aromas of blackberry, cherry and licorice accented by white pepper. Sweet and round on entry, displaying dark fruit flavors given definition by firm acidity and complicated by slowly emerging suggestions of bitter cherry and candied anise. The firmly tannic finish features enticing floral lift and echoes the licorice note. Showing a serious side right now." Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Mar/Apr 11)
