The nose is big but simple at first as all I could detect was black strap molasses. With time in glass sweet and rich smells of spice cookie, cinnamon gram cracker and black currant began to rise from the glass. The palate was like velvet on the front palate that turned searing acidity on the mid and showed cherry cough syrup, fig newton and milk chocolate. The finish tasted of burnt sugar. BUT, through all of this, the wine tasted more like a cocktail that anything else. THe overdone sweet verse alcohol was too much and some sips would literally leave the burning aftertaste of alcohol behind on the palate as if you'd just taken a shot of vodka. It was all T & A without any brains, good for a one night stand but do you really want to take it home and watch it age?

Getting some nice black licorice, cherry pie, and some asian spices. Tasty, but still not on par with my expectations of a GOOD CdP.

Closest to opus one 2007 I have encountered. Price rage of $145 inaccurate. Cannot locate for under ~$200. Let decant 1.5hrs.

I found this bottle a little hot with alcohol, and while the layers and texture were fascinating, the alcohol dominated the taste and undermined the structure.

Quite ripe, with layers of linzer torte, cassis and blackberry fruit piled on top of well-rounded tannins. Loads of spice and licorice ripple through the finish, with an underlying iron hint. Shows the focus and polish of the vintage. Best from 2012 ... Wine Spectator. A Proprietary Blend wine from Rhone in France. 2009 Pierre Usseglio Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aieul 1500ml

Dark ruby. Musky aromas of blackberry and spice cake, with complicating fennel, smoke and truffle notes. Dense, spicy and focused, with deep dark fruit flavors joined by a sexy floral element on the palate. Not a fat or fleshy style but in no way har... Stephen Tanzers IWC. I was able to taste 3 separate samples destined for the 2009 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de mon Aïeul and each rated between 95 and 98 points. The dark ruby/plum 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Mon Aieul (in most years a blend of 95 to nearly 100% Grenache, aged 90% in cement tanks and the remaining 10% in demi-muids) is seductive and concentrated, with loads of plum, fig, blueberry and bouq... The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aieul 100% Grenache aged in tank (50%), pyramid-shaped, truncated wood cuves (40%) and barrels (10%) will not make anyone forget the 2007. The good news is that there are 1,500 cases in 2009. Already seductiv... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. Winemaker's Notes:

"The limited production 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve des Deux Freres (400 cases) is 100% Grenache aged 40% in old barrels, 30% in tank, and 30% in new oak casks. A spicy, full-bodied, powerful effort, it is built for 20+ years of cellaring. The color is a saturated ruby/purple and the nose offers up scents of camphor, toast, blackberry and blueberry liqueur, incense, licorice, truffle and spice box. The wine’s concentration and superb intensity absorb the oak in a shockingly easy fashion. This classic, massive, rich Chateauneuf du Pape needs 2-4 years of bottle age and should drink well over the following two decades...93-95" WA 10/10
