Editorial Reviews for Domaine Paul Autard Chateauneuf-du-Pape
Fleshy, lightly sweet red fruit, herb tones, little red licorice. Rather soft on the palate with fully resolved tannins and nice acid. A bit light with a nice mineral aspect on the back end, then it frays just a touch finishing with decent length and some chocolate notes. Quite aromatic, fleshy, round and very giving with a nice green spice thing on the finale. 87pts
Big nose of blackberry and dark cherry. A rather new world style, with notes of blackberry/cherry/licorice, good gripping tannins, and a bit of black pepper on the finish. A blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre.
Bright red berries on the nose. Complex but ready to drink.
Too cough syrup-y and new world for my tastes. Very fruit-forward and overly ripe with red fruits and a bit of spice, but unbalanced and too heavy on the alcohol. Nose virtually non-existent. 2007 was kind of a crappy vintage, but even with that in mind, there are much better CDRs out there.
Liked this for $13. Guess I'm the new world, new wine type. Looking forward to my next bout with the flu
Dense viscous mouth-filling goodness.
Heavy alcohol until the wine had a chance to breathe. Much better on day 2.
As per previous note, this wine really needs time to breathe. I highly recommend decanting, actually. Heavy alcohol and tannins, overshadowing the blackberry fruit and terrior. Good - 83 points.

Juicy, with raspberry and currant fruit laced with aged tobacco and dark spice notes. This has a nice open-knit finish. Drink now.
This offers lots of aromatic spice, mulled raspberry and melted licorice notes, laced with black tea and sweet spice hints. Features lingering dark fruit on the finish. Drink now through 2012.
Fresh, with sweet dark cherry and bramble flavors followed by notes of mocha and toast on the finish. Drink now.
This has good ripeness for the vintage, with juicy plum and blackberry fruit laced with mesquite and graphite notes. Fine length. Drink now.
The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape (70% Grenache and the rest Syrah and Counoise aged in old small barrels) exhibits delicious notes of sweet cherries, mulberries, tobacco leaf, licorice and spice box. Lush, round and medium to full-bodied, it is ideal for... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. A Proprietary Blend wine from Rhone in France. 2009 Paul Autard Chateauneuf du Pape 750ml
For example, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape. This is a gloriously opulent, voluptuously textured, opaque ruby/purple Chateauneuf du Pape with loads of grilled meat, charcoal and roasted herbs as well as blackberry and black currant fruit. Deep, chewy a... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Proprietary Blend wine from Rhone in France. 2009 Paul Autard Chateauneuf du Pape 750ml
Whew mdash; what a long-winded title for a Grenache-based field blend! The quintessential red blend, this elegant yet powerful wine is no muddy puddle of grapes. Stylistically, I am reminded of Ridge wineryrsquo;s Zinfandel blends; like Zinfandel, Grenache provides heady liqueur aspects, while the leading minor players mdash; Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault mdash; season the base with black spice, fresh herbs, and mineral. Densely packed with sultry dark cherry fruit, this Autard is delicious now, but firm tannins suggest aging may reward. Honestly, these are the greatest all-round wines in the worldhellip; hmmmhellip; I think Irsquo;ll change my name to Paula Autard.
