- The ever energetic Anne Parent told me that we continue to evolve and improve our approach, both in the vineyards and in our vinification. We've now converted all are vineyards to cordon royat pruning and we treat only when needed, not in anticipation of a problem. As to the 2004 vintage, it was a challenge, particularly because of the hail in certain sectors. We waited until September 27th to begin picking as I didn't believe that the phenolics were ripe prior to that date. It was an incredible sorting job and we threw out, or left in the vineyards, fully 35% of the crop. Sugars were excellent read more...and we chaptalized only 2 wines. I very much like the vintage as it created well colored, seductive and charming wines that remind me of the 2000s but with better acidity. It will drink well early but it may surprise people with how well it lasts. (Commonwealth Wines, Boston, MA and the Chicago Wine Company, Chicago, IL; the UK agent is Charles Hawkins with additional sources in SH Jones and Decorum Vintners). The ripest wine to this point with rich and pungent aromas of plum, mocha, spice, warm earth and cassis that combine with velvety and mouth coating flavors that offer excellent complexity and a firmly tannic spine where the tannins are also notably ripe. The best wine in the cellar today. (hide)
