- Stéphane Moreau told me that he was exceptionally surprised at how well the 2004 vintage turned out considering how much rain and oidium there was in August, noting that we had to sort twice, once in the vineyard and again at the cuvérie. We waited until October 6th to begin picking and yields were very generous at almost 70 hl/ha. Because of the higher yields, sugars were all over the place at between 10 and 13% but with solid pHs of 3.25 to 3.4. I like the vintage and it reminds me of 2000 or perhaps a bit like 1997. Note: Moreau is neither all stainless nor all wood and divides both the vinification and read more...élevage amounts to two-thirds stainless and one-third in wood, most of it older; the wines are fined and filtered but not cold stabilized. (Christopher Canaan Selections, NY; O.W. Loeb, Lea & Sandeman, Tanners Wines and The Wine Society, all UK). Note: from Chapelot The wood is more noticeable here and while not intrusive, it's not subtle either as it frames the orchard fruit and sea weed aromas that introduce round, rich, powerful and mouth coating flavors that offer superb intensity and outstanding mid-palate density. This is a big wine with an almost robust character and an explosive finish that features intense minerality and stunning length. A great effort for a 1er. (hide)

Note: from Chapelot This has almost completely eaten its wood as the residual amount frames the orchard/green fruit and sea weed aromas that introduce round, rich, powerful and mouth coating flavors that offer superb intensity and outstanding mid-palate density. This is a big wine with an almost robust character and an explosive finish that features intense minerality and stunning length. This will need a few years in bottle to really strut its stuff.
