Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Vincent Mongeard and his wife Anne are the current custodians of this domaine, which was founded when Vincent’s grandfather and grandmother pooled their vineyards resources in the 1920s. Today, they have over 30 hectares of vineyard, stretching from Savigny in the south to Fixin in the north, and ranging from basic Bourgogne toholdings in Grand Crus like Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, Echezaux and Grands Echezaux. The 45-50 year old vines are Guyot pruned. In the spring severe debudding takes place to regulate the crop. A green harvest is carried out in the summer to increase the chances of high quality and maturity. Harvest is always carried out by hand. Deep ruby red in colour this wine has concentrated perfumes of rich red and black fruits, cherries, mulberries and blackcurrants. Vanilla and spice notes combine with more vegetal touches of mushrooms, forest floor and leather, with a hint of violets. In the mouth it is ample, meaty and muscular striking a perfect balancebetween the fine tannins and a discreet acidity. A long and very complex finish.

Since then and threw all the generations, the family is committed to their passion : Vine and Wine. The Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret, renamed since 1945, now operates, in the purist of the burgundy tradition, a large vineyard, from the Côte de Nuits to the Côte de Beaune, from Marsannay to the south of Dijon to Puligny-Montrachet, including all the most prestigious villages of the Côte : Gevrey-Chambertin, Vougeot, Nuits Saint Georges and Savigny les Beaune, the centre of the exploitation remaining in Vosne Romanée.
