The trick to the 2002 vintage was finding the right moment to harvest, according to director of marketing Lorraine Carrigan. The domaine elected to harvest their 100 ha very late, not starting until the 26th of September (the ban de vendange was declared the 23rd) and because of the fine weather, the harvest lasted until the 10th of October. Not surprisingly, this resulted in excellent sugars but to better maintain balance, the decision was made to block around 20% of the malos in most of the wines.
