A perfumed, traditional Chateauneuf-du-Pape that has copious crushed berry, licorice, garrigue, ground pepper and saddle leather aromas and flavors all emerging from the glass, the 2011 Chateauneuf-du-Pape is medium-bodied, nicely balanced and has excellent length on the finish. As with most 2011s, it will be on a fast evolutionary track, yet is loaded with character and charm. Drink it over the coming 5-6 years. Drink now-2019.

Deep ruby. Musky, spice- and herb-accented aromas of cherry and cassis, with a smoky nuance in the background. Broad and fleshy on entry, then firmer in the middle, offering bitter cherry and dark berry flavors and chewy texture. Gains sweetness with air and finishes very long, with chewy tannins and lingering anise and cherry notes. Offers silky, lightly mulled cherry and red currant fruit, laced gently with singed sandalwood and bergamot notes, with an easy finish. Drink now through 2015. 3,000 cases made. -JM

The ripe core of anise, plum and blackberry is tightly framed for now by sleek graphite and black tea notes. A flash of shiso leaf cuts in on the finish, which is long and graceful, despite its density. Rock-solid. Best from 2012 through 2022. 3,000 cases made. -JM ** SOLD OUT **

Plump and dense, with layers of fig paste, plum jam and fruitcake backed by a broad, muscular structure. The long finish lets raisin, currant and licorice notes stretch out. This has a solid core of fruit, if not the overall range of the vintages best. Drink now through 2019. 4,000 cases made. -JM A traditional wine, the 2007 has dark plum/garnet color and a broad flavor spectrum of herbs, cherries, earth, and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, surprisingly evolved, and delicious already, this wine will require consumption over the next 7-9 years.
