Domaine l'Hortus Grand Cuvee Pic-St-Loup 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The Hortus Grande Cuvée Rouge is dominated by Syrah and
Mourvèdre, in equal shareholdings, with 10% Syrah making up the balance.
The vines are located, respectively, under the cliffs of Pic Saint-Loup and
Hortus, both of which punctuate the landscape with no small measure of
drama.

The grapes are aged, after assemblage, in Allier oak barrels, 2/3 of which
are new, for a period of sixteen months. The wine has a powerful
Mourvèdre-influenced nose, with hints of pepper, charcutierie and
even dried flowers, adding resonance to the dark fruit descriptors. The wine
has concentration and balance and then a powerful, resonant finish.
(Simon Field MW, BBR Buyer)

Domaine de l'Hortus:
Nice to visit. In a stunning region of France the wine makery and vinyard are situated just of the main road. The tasting room is above the botteling line, which gives a true feeling of authenticity.
