Domaine le Garrigon Cotes du Rhone Villages Visan White 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Sophisticated. Lovely white, its complexity reflecting talented winemaking. Full-bodied and showing dough, yeast, pear tart, citrus and smoke complexity. Nice, long, supple and balanced finish.

Our grandfather started wine-making in Tulette (Drôme provençale) in 1919. Today, Garrigon Domain spreads over 200 acres (80 hectares) from Tulette to Visan. We make AOC, Côtes du Rhône as well as Rhône villages wines. The Mediterranean climate, marked by mistral, and the soil nature, clayed-calcareous or clayey-silt laden, with pebbly Rhône traces, are favourable to rich and heavy wine growing. The grape vine has been cultivated organically since 1997, without any yeast or enzyme, animal product, weed-killer, pesticide, thus respecting both nature and human-beings. We make our red wines by joining Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Carignan types of wine. As to our white wines, they are made out of Viognier, Ugni-blanc and Bourboulenc vine. The average yield, i.e. 40 hectolitre per hectare, as well as the average vine age (25 years), enables us to keep constant wine quality. The wine making remains traditional. A rich, fruity white. Low acidity, pretty mellow, with plenty of peachy flavor, and touches of minerals and orange. Very pleasant! It needs to be consumed pretty quickly or the flavor fades. I forget what I paid for it, but I would get it again.
