Domaine la Millière Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine: "60% Grenache,10% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, 10% Cinsault and 10% Counoise. All grapes are de-stemmed. Fermentation and maceration in cement tank for 20-25 days. Maturing at first in cement tanks and then in foudres for 12-18 months." - Importer "Michel Arnaud has been in charge at the property since 1983, when he took over from his father Aimé Arnaud. If you visit the the domain you can also meet Annie or Claudine, sister and mother of Michel. In 1940 the property was purchased by the grandfather of Michel, Fernand Arnaud." "The total area with vines is 27 ha. 15 ha. is Chateauneuf du Pape, situated near the domain at lieu-dit Cabrieres, 8 ha. are Cotes du Rhone Village or Cotes du Rhone and 4 ha. are Vin du Pays de Orange." "The fields for Chateauneuf are varying even if they are situated near each other: Slopes or terrasses covered with big stones or with lime stones, some plots are with clay and other plots more sandy." "The fields are treated by organic methods "agriculture raisonnée"." "All the Wines (except those of Vin du Pays) are called Vieilles Vignes, and this is reasonable as 95% of the vines are quite old - also those in the fields of Cotes du Rhone." - Importer This was also rated 15 out of 20, by Jancis Robinson in the Purple Pages.

Domaine La Millière:
Close by the ancient city of Orange, Domaine La Millière is located in the northern part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in Cabrières. Nestled amidst unspoilt nature where the vine is queen, La Millière is home to the fifth generation of a family in which the profession of winegrower has been passed down from father to son.
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Lush red color with a strong spicy nose. Full-bodied leathery but fruity flavor with a wonderful silky and buttery finish. Everything holds together nicely. A little more adventurous than a typical Rhone Blend. Extremely enjoyable.

Deep ruby. Powerful aromas of black raspberry, licorice, garrigue and smoked meat. Dense and ripe, with good depth adding to the dark berry and licorice pastille flavors. Broad, chewy and ripe in style, reminding me a bit of a wine from 2007, showing... Stephen Tanzers IWC. This is alluring, with warm ganache and black tea notes leading the way for velvety-textured fig sauce, plum and crushed blackberry fruit. The long finish is filled with licorice and anise. The stunning 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes (from 80-100+ year old vines) gives some credibility to the vignerons' arguments that in the drought-stricken 2009 growing season, the northern Chateauneuf du Pape parcels were less impacted than ... Michel Arnaud continues to fashion beautiful wines and has certainly eclipsed the general level of quality for the vintage with his 2008 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes. This full-bodied red wine comes from the southern Rhône, and it happens to be a superlative value in traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Full of dark plum flavors and black pepper spice with an unbelievable velvet texture. Winemaker Michel Arnaud is of the 5th generation of Arnauds to work on the domaine.
