Domaine Huguenot Gevrey-Chambertin les Crais 2013

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £35 from a shop in London's Kensington [www.leaandsandeman.com].Gevrey-Chambertin is an appellation created in 1936,although viticulture in the area goes back to at least the Romans, for red wines only made of the pinot noir grape from the commune of the same name and the neighbouring commune of Borchon on ther Cotes de Nuits in Burgundy. There are 9 grand cru vineyuards and 26 premier crus although my bottle is only a village level wine from the family concern of Huguenot. It is made from 55-60 year old vines and spent 12-18 months in oak barrels.I started my bottle last night with my steak supper. There is plenty of a srawberry, raspberry and cranberry style fruit with soft tannins although it manages to be beautifully structured. This is a subtle and delicate wine that deserves to be sipped slowly and savoured and which certainly justifies its high price. The best word to describe it would be exquisite.
