Domaine Guillot-Broux Macon-Villages 2016

External Review:

Made from 35-year-old Gamay vines. This vintage was especially friendly and makes for an eminently quaffable red wine with freshly crushed berries, pepperiness, and a sanguine sweetness. Excellent with a cheese plate.

i am going to sound crazy but this tastes exactly like a watery over-oaked california cab. and it's a white wine! maybe it's past peak or something but i found this fascinating for this role reversal. however it's quite dull.

From 25 year old vines this chardonnay rested on the lees in old oak barrels for 11 months before bottling. This results in a golden color, creamy texture and hints of herbal spice that play through the ripe apple fruits.

Made from 35 year old Gamay vines. This vintage was especially friendly and makes for an imminently quaffable red wine that's all about freshly crushed berries, pepperiness and a sanguin sweetness. Excellent with your next cheese plate.

A Chardonnay with a giving palate of orchard fruits, lively almost milky acidity and a touch of lemon spice on the finish. It's whites such as this one from the Guillot-Broux winery that makes Burgundy so accessible.

100% Gamay with toasted cumin spice, pepperiness and a sanguin sweetness makes this a beautifully balanced wine; perfect for the dinner table.

Here is a ripe and floral white Burgundy that shows the perfect amount of evolution. Though the wine was aged 50% in tank and 50% in barrel, there is no appreciable oak on the palate. There is, however, a strong surge of mineral; if this doesn't send you running to the nearest plate of oysters, nothing will.

Made in the town of "Chardonnay" (no we aren't kidding), this Mâcon should remind you very much of the original Guillot-Broux. Made by the same vigneron out of his neighbor's grapes, this wine is fresh and nutritious.
