User Reviews for Domaine Fl Savennieres Roche Aux Moines

Winemaker's Notes:

Domaine FL is an exciting new estate in the Loire valley, with 39 hectares of vineyards in some of Anjou`s most prized sites. 21 hectares cover Anjou, Coteaux du Layon and Quarts de Chaume, while 18 hectares line the slopes of the small hill of Epiré in Savennières, with 4 ha of these in the highly-prized cru, les Roche-aux-Moines. Loire fanatic Philippe Fournier founded the domaine in 2005, although the vineyards and winery have existed for far longer. His cellarmaster is Hugues Daubercies, but the respected winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt also advises on the winemaking. As expected from a combination of fine sites (all of which are either organic or in conversion) and meticulous winemaking, the quality of the wines is exceptionally high. This 100% Chenin Blanc is golden in colour with aromas of citrus fruits and notes of smoke. It has a very tightly-knit mineral structure with fantastic concentration and complexity on the palate and a very long finish, ensuring 10-20 years ageing at least if it is desired.

Tasting Notes:

Lemon yellow color with straw yellow glints. Pineapple, wild peach and acacia honey aromas on the nose. Soft attack with candied pineapple notes preceding an elegant mineral structure. Its lovely crystalline finish reveals a delicious note of aged rum supported by a wonderful minerality.
