The history of Sutter Home Winery dates back to the late 1800's, when a Swiss-German immigrant named John Thomann established a small winery and distillery in the heart of California's Napa Valley. Although much has changed for the Trincheros and Sutter Home, the motto and philosophy originated by their father more than a half-century ago remains the same: "A great product for a fair price." After resurrecting Sutter Home in 1948, the Trincheros struggled to keep the family winery afloat, imbuing it with the values of hard work, ingenuity, humility and integrity that have characterized them ever since. Each member of the family played a vital role in keeping the business running: Mother Mary Trinchero kept the books, younger children Vera and Roger helped on the bottling line, while older brother Bob assisted his dad, Mario, and uncle John in cleaning out tanks and barrels. The family's cohesion kept Sutter Home together and eventually made it the success it is today. With its creation of White Zinfandel in the early 1970s and the introduction of high-quality, affordably priced varietal wines during the 1980s and '90s, Sutter Home became a household name and the second largest, independent family-run winery in the U.S. Read less

Dark, rich color. On the nose there is floral blackberry and black currant with a hint of chocolate. Dry and earthy, on the palate, with a hint of old wood and a note of leather that emerges with air. Full bodied and structured.

The wine posses a complexity of aromas that suggest red berries, with some toasted notes as a result of a short period in oak, that in combination with good structure of bark allows it the presentation of a very rounded and balanced wine in the mouth.

This is a lighter bodied C-D-R but it is not too thin. The blend is the classic Grenache-Syrah combination. This wine has a good amount of sour cherry and plum notes with a bit of pepper and spice in a smooth, long finish. It will certainly work with roast leg of lamb, pork loin or prime rib. It will even go well with smoked kielbasa with horseradish.

Our 2011 Sauvignon Blanc "Cuvee Jeanne" is beautifully balanced and aromatic with suggestions of passion fruit and grapefruit. The palate is crisp and dry but not too acidic with a good depth of flavor. The wine is perfect as an aperitif or with chicken, fish or creamy pasta dishes. - Winery

Ripe pineapple aroma enlivened by high-pitched notes of violet and lavender. Fat round and sweet on the palate with subtle soil tones contributing to the wine s impression of power. The palate-coating finish is suave and aromatic but could use a bit more lift. This will need some time in bottle to express its personality. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

Bright pale yellow. A bit riper on the nose than the Chenevottes offering scents of peach and smoky minerality. Then juicy and nerveux on the palate; not a fleshy wine but has cut and lift. I wanted a bit more concentration and personality though. Finishes with a spicy note. Stephen Tanzers IWC.
