Editorial Reviews for Domaine Eden Cabernet Sauvignon
Just gorgeous on the nose, sharp and savory with coffee and green herb accents to the core of meaty dark berry fruit. The oak impact is modest here adding an attractive burnt sugar and spice note but not becoming intrusive. Absolutely fresh, precise and transparent on the palate with a tense mouthfeel supporting simple if pure and vibrant fruit that never seems overwrought. There’s some mineral notes as well, adding a little complexity. Absolutely gorgeous and drinking at peak. 93pts

Opaque violet. Redcurrant, cherry and tobacco on the smoky nose. Mineral-laced red fruit flavors are underscored by a gentle spicy quality and pick up a bitter cherry nuance in the mid-palate. Finishes firm, with good clarity and lift and an echo of redcurrant.
The Domaine Eden 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon is an attractive, pretty wine layered with bright red fruit, flowers and spices. It is best suited to near-term enjoyment. Small amounts of Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec round out the blend. The Cabernet Sauvignon was made from six different vineyards across the estate. Anticipated maturity 2011andndash;2015.
Balancing bright berry notes with the earth tones of a cool cellar, this is a complex and forthright cabernet sauvignon. It includes merlot, franc and small amounts of petit verdot and malbec andmdash; Mount Eden estate fruit as well as grapes from three other vineyards in Saratoga and Los Gatos andmdash; all coming together in a wine thatandrsquo;s completely satisfying to drink. Thereandrsquo;s suppleness to the texture, a silk brocade of strawberry-tinged fruit, wood, stem and earth. Brisk and mouthwatering, this is glorious California cabernet and an unbeatable value.
This wine is sourced from a mix of Mount Eden’s estate, Domaine Eden and three nearby vineyards owned by dear friends who spend a “king’s ransom” for perfection. The concept is to offer a Bordeaux-styled Cabernet which speaks of the Santa Cruz Mountains – specifically the mid-appellation. This is complementary to our historic Estate Cabernet which is solely from the vineyards at Mount Eden. The blend is always somewhat of a surprise as the varietal composition changes year to year. The 2008 is composed of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10 % Cabernet France, 9% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec. Unfined, unfiltered, all fermentations were with native yeasts. Nothing added, nothing taken away. The wine is as expected: Savory not sweet (aka Napa Cabs) with complex elegant berry fruit of black currant and black cherries with tell-tale chalky-earth notes that bespeak of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Worthy of cellaring for 10-15 years, it is an incredible value.
