Domaine du Viking Vouvray Tendre 1990

Member Review by jaye:

Top of cork was covered in black mold which concerned me a bit initially, but after carefully washing and uncorking the wine, I was delighted to find that the mold had not penetrated down the cork. Color was dazzling - a beautiful crystal clear gold. After allowing for a good aeration, nose was candied lemon peel with maybe just a hint of orange peel too. This full-bodied, not quite viscous but absolutely luscious wine was lightly sweet, with flavors reminiscent of Peaches & Pears in Light Syrup, accompanied by lemony and floral undertones. The alcohol (12%) was fully integrated, and I detected a hint of chamomile flavor on the finish. This is really a lovely wine.

Domaine du Viking:
The vineyards, extending to some 14 hectares (about 35 acres), are situated on the gentle slopes of a valley within the Vouvray region (Appellation contrôlée). The grapes are traditionally picked by hand.
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
