I am not the one who should review the Wine Spectator's choice for the #3 wine of 2009. I could not resist observing, however, that this is one huge hunk of vino. It has savory flavors and an intensity that are truly awe-inspiring. This is serious wine. It almost tastes like a major Burgundian beef dinner. I will be watching as it evolves and hope to have the vocabulary to describe it as it does.

La Crau is a combination of 65% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 15% Syrah. The composition of the remaining 5% is variable. Often this is a combination of Cinsault, Clairette and other. The concentration and strength of the wine is brilliant into the nose. We recognize taste like pepper, blackberry, blueberry, and even the cool of the pine grove. The powerful character is displayed in the form of sal ammoniac and liquorice. He even has a floral touch, taste good when we do we recognize tones of lavender in our glass! The 2007 has a softer mouth feel than one year ago. The beauty of this wine is ripe but that his young and good tannins, fresh acidity nicely balanced with his strength and concentration. Thus preserving the wine, despite its high alcohol concentration and a fresh and juicy character. The length of the aftertaste is enormous and developed gradually. The drop with the blueberry and lavender entered into the aftertaste dominated! Brilliant nose, top balance, thickness, concentration, strength, good acidity and an enormous length. What a magnifcent glass of wine! The storage potential is certainly about 25 years. 95/100 Supersnobs.com

94-96 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, October 2008 "The 2007 Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf du Pape should ultimately eclipse the 2005 and 1998. It appears to be one of the finest wines made by Daniel Brunier and his brother. Its deep ruby color is accompanied by a superb nose of nori seaweed wrappers, licorice, pepper, tobacco leaf, and gobs of sweet black cherry and black currant fruit. Full-bodied with a fabulous texture, purity, and freshness (a consistent hallmark of this vintage), a juicy, rich, layered mouthfeel, and a finish that lasts for 45+ seconds. Although young, the tannin, acidity, and alcohol are all well-integrated. Typically, this wine tends to be dormant for 3-5 years after bottling, then emerge brilliantly. Therefore, I would wait until 2012 before pulling a cork on this one. Drink it over the following 20-25 years."

Focused, with a range of apple, lime, pear, floral and mineral notes that stretch out on the bright, stony finish. This has concentration in reserve. Drink now through 2012. 2,000 cases made. -JM Wine Spectator. A Proprietary Blend wine from Rhone in France. 2007 Vieux Telegraphe, Domaine du Chateauneuf du Pape La Crau Blanc 750ml

Number 3 on Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2009! Vieux Telegraphe is an iconic wine. Every vintage it excels, surpassing even the high expectations of this esteemed appellation. In 2007 when every Chateauneuf was a gem, Vieux Telegraphe was the diamond. Scoring 95 points, the Wine Spectator said "Packed, in a brawny, muscular style atypical for this lush vintage, with a gravelly undertow to the currant paste, braised fig and dark licorice notes. Picks up even more steam on the finish, with grilled mesquite, mineral and garrigue notes and a long, hot stone-filled finish. Best from 2010 through 2030." Extremely Limited!

The 2007 Vieux Telegraphe may be the greatest wine made at this property since the 2005 and 1998.
