Domaine du Vieux Lazaret Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Exceptionnelle 2005

External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

Has a solid core of blackberry, melted licorice and coffee flavors, with hints of briar and currant paste on the mineral- and earth- driven finish. Thereandrsquo;s solid, latent grip. This fleshes out as it airs. Best from 2010 through 2020.

Deep ruby red core with a light, vibrant rim color. Aromas of spice, plum, cherry, and blackberries, followed by beautiful floral notes and hints of anise. Nice earthiness about this wine, but not overboard, creating a great balance with the fresh fr... Alex Lallos. A Proprietary Blend wine from Rhone in France. 2005 Domaine du Vieux Lazaret Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Exceptionnelle 750ml

Very lush and ripe, with plum, fig and raspberry fruit flavors that melt over fine-grained tannins, leaving spice, cocoa, sweet smoke and mineral notes behind on the lengthy finish. Drink now through 2020.

The 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Exceptionnelle may be the finest wine Quiot has yet produced. This deep, profoundly concentrated effort boasts a dense ruby/purple-tinged color as well as a gorgeous perfume of raspberry and cherry liqueur intermixed with notions of licorice, flowers, and spice. Full-bodied and unctuously-textured, with high levels of glycerin and alcohol as well as tremendous purity, this is a terrific, full-throttle, palate-staining, impeccably well-balanced Chateauneuf du Pape that can be drunk in 2ndash;3 years, or cellared for 12ndash;15.

Hugely toasty and oaky, and yet the wine seems too extreme given the intensity of the cherry fruit. Itrsquo;s full bodied, lush and supple, with a long, mouthwatering finish. Drink nowndash;2019.

The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Exceptionnelle has turned out to be significantly better than I thought last year when I tasted it prior to bottling. The greatest wine Quiot has ever made in my opinion, this wine shows a dense ruby/purple color and a gorgeous nose of camphor, blackberry, kirsch, some roast beef and Provencal herbs. Full-bodied with great intensity, beautiful purity, a multi-dimensional mouthfeel, and a spectacular finish of close to a minute, this is a fabulous effort from Quiot and should drink well for close to two decades.
