Domaine du Petit Clocher Anjou Villages 2014

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from a shop in Oxfordshire [www.oxfordwines.co.uk ] for £7.50. 151 communes are allowed to use the general Anjou appellation for red, rose, white and sparkling wines but only 46 of them can use the Anjou Villages appellation, created in 1991 for red wines only made of the cabernet sauvignon and/or cabernet franc grapes. Domaine du Petit Clocher is a family business in this area and my bottle is made of a blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% cabernet franc.I started it last night with my supper of chicken thighs cooked in bacon and blue cheese. There is plenty of an intense blackcurrant and blackberry style fruit and also licorice. The tannins were fairly soft but it could have done with a little more structure. It went well with the chicken

Domaine du Petit Clocher:
The domaine was founded by Jules-Emile Denis in 1920 with five hectares. There are now 80 hectares and the estate is run by his greatgrandchildren Stephane,Julien and Vincent. They produce a range of red, rose, white and sparkling wines under a number of Loire valley appellations
