Coming after the Reservee I was not particularly impressed with this. Not revealing much on the nose with a cool, menthol tinged woodsy/pine balsam tone this was obviously bigger and richer in the mouth but was overly tannic, and dry stemmy tannins at that. Once you peaked behind the wall of curtains there appears to be a solid core of dark, slightly jammy cherry fruit and the nose offers up intirguing notes of violets and aspirin with some coaxing but this is not delivering tonight and while it appears to have excellent potential is very possibly just too tannic to ever be well balanced.

This started out with some dirty barrel funk that caused quite some discussion before it blew off. Started right out the gate with that dirty nose complimented by lots of roasted and dried fruits with a floral almost spicy herbal note The floral aspect of the nose built and when the funk blew off there was great intensity of raspberry fruit with gentle blond tobacco nuances. In the mouth this was young at first blush, even though it was double decanted 2 hours before service, offering an initial impression that was a bit tough and lean. The palate fills in and offers glimpses of raspberry confiture that remain just a touch muddy but turns admirably more complex with an autumnal tone, some black spice/minerality up front and a moderately long finish. This is drinking well today with decanting but will benefit from another 2-5 years in the cellar.

Wow. this is an incredibly deep and pure CdP that's not even in first grade of it's aging. Incredibly primary nose of garrigue, cedar and ripe red fruits. The palate is lush and full- great finish- with a raspberry/currant flavor profile. fantastic wine.

opened and consumed over 3 hours. very dark purple. Initial nose was raspberry jam. Added olives and some garrigue, but ultimately was driven by sweet raspberry fruit- nice balance with good persistence. very good.

Darkly colored with a garnet rim. This vintage showcases Pegaus identifiable bouquet of sour cherries and horse saddle. With medium weight, the palate displays the classic grenache flavors of wild, sauvage cherries, while refreshingly tangy acidity ... Chuck Hayward. Under the estate Domaine du Pegau label, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee is spending a longer time in barrel and foudre than usual. Consequently, I tasted through three separate foudres, all of which looked spectacular. The final blend wi... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. The bottled 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee is as compelling as I thought it would be after tasting it last year. A blend of 85% Grenache with the rest Syrah, Mourvedre and small dollops of the other authorized varietals, this wine tends to come from the estatersquo;s holdings in the eastern sector of Chateauneuf du Pape. The opaque purple-colored 2009 exhibits magnificent, rich berry fruit intertwined with cedar, Christmas fruitcake, licorice, charcuterie, roasted meats, smoked duck, kirsch, blackberries and god knows what else. It is an amazingly complex, rich, full-throttle wine that reminds me somewhat of what the 1990 tasted like in 1994/1995. It is a magnificent Chateauneuf du Pape. If you are looking for the garrigue component, itrsquo;s also there.

Dark and dense, with stunning espresso, warm ganache and roasted plum aromas giving way to layers of black currant, braised fig and licorice root. The long, grip-filled finish is framed by a strong roasted mesquite edge and a lingering note of brick dust. A wild wine, with loads going on. Just needs cellaring to round into form. Best from 2015 through 2030.

Dark ruby. Wild, highly aromatic bouquet of dark berry liqueur, cherry pit, smoked meat and garrigue. Deeply pitched black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors are broad and sappy, with a smoky floral quality appearing on the back. The long finish features gentle tannic grip and lingering smokiness. Fans of old-school Chateauneuf are going to love this wine.
