Domaine du Monte Saint Jean Vin de Pays de l'Île de Beauté 2005

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/74354 for £5.50.Wine production on Corsica goes back to at least 600BC but in the 1960's it was very much boosted by the arrival of re-patriated settlers from Algeria [the so-called pied noirs ] ]to the east coast. The Domaine du Mont Saint Jean grows vines for the Uval Les Vignerons Corsicans co-operative.This was set up in 1975 and they encouraged varitel wines like chardonnay and pinot noir in the 1980's. I started my bottle of wine last night with my steak and I did enjoy it. There is plenty of a raspberry and cherry style fruit and the tannins give it a very structured feel.Although the climate is obviously warmer this could easily be a far more expensive Burgundy.Anyway it was a good match for the steak
