On the his has a bit of earth and spice, almost a hint of barnyard, or more like a well used kitchen actually. That subtle savory element comes through on the palate as well but it's well concealed in a deep pool of blackberry fruits with a touch of apple skin acidity and a hint of slightly rouch tannins. The finish adds some bitter cocoa notes and the fruit turn a little brighter recalling freshly made black raspberry preserves. A lovely wine with length, depth and complexity. 90pts

Marc and Thierry Parcé have been bottling their wines since 1984, but the vineyard has been in their family for generations passed down from their great grandmother, Therese Parcé. Widowed very young, she stopped making wine on the estate following the death of her father, Marcelin Reig. She ran the estate for half a century until 1969. She was an extraordinary winemaker as well as a brave and strong-minded woman with simple tastes and was nicknamed by the family “Theresette”. We owe to her our agricultural roots. The method of vinification at Domaine de La Rectorie, depends on the vineyard : there are over thirty different patches of vineyards influenced by varying exposures to the sun and different altitudes (ranging from 0-400 meters), so that by the time we have finished harvesting, we have potentially made over 30 different wines. The age of the vines, controlling the yields and maintaining the original grape varieties… only in these simple ways can we maintain the identity of the terroir. The main grape variety is Grenache Noir, used for Banyuls, together with a little Syrah, Carignan and Mourvedre for the ‘Collioure’ wine. The whites are made from Grenache Gris. Read less
