Domaine des Terres Dorees/Jean Paul Brun Beaujolais "l'Ancien" 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

92+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): The 2009 Cuvée l'Ancien from Monsieur Brun is absolutely stellar and a beautiful example of the vintage. The bouquet is deep, pure and vibrant, as it soars from the glass in a beautiful mélange of red and black cherries, a touch of raw cocoa, sweet cranberries, fresh thyme, complex soil tones and a distinct topnote of roses. On the palate the wine is deep, medium-full, long and very, very transparent, with a great core of pure fruit, a bit of tannin to resolve, tangy acids and great focus and grip on the very long and soil-driven finish. A stunning bottle of Beaujolais. 2010-2030+. (Jul/Aug 2010)

Brun's 2009 Beaujolais L'Ancien Vieilles Vignes is once again a model of its appellation with brightness and lift, tartly refreshing yet ripe cherry and blackberry fruit; and in general a character distinctive to the chalky soils of southern Beaujolais for which his domaine is named. Bittersweet inner-mouth floral perfume; high-toned almond extract and kirsch distillate; and salted, toasted nuts add delicious complexity to a wine that manages to caress as well as invigorate. Enjoy this terrific value over the next couple of years.

Vivid ruby. Black raspberry and cherry on the nose, with suave floral and spice nuances adding complexity. Lively and precise, offering pungent red fruit and spice flavors and nuances of bitter cherry pit and anise. A juicy, sharply focused Beaujolais with very good finishing clarity and spicy, mineral-driven length.
