Domaine des Sénéchaux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

The history of Domaine des Sénéchaux goes back to the 14th century, making it one of the oldest domaines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The Estate covers 25 hectares in two excellent areas: 12 hectares near Château la Nerthe and 15 hectares in the Montalivet-Bois des Sénéchaux district, near Château Rayas. Since 2006 the estate has been owned by Jean Michel Cazes (famous for owning the Bourdeaux Lynch Bages estate) who, together with his son Jean Charles has done a great job of restoring the estate. The vineyards have been restored to their former glory and the winemaking facilities have been fully modernised. The white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a blend of Roussanne, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc. The Roussanne is barrel fermented and allowed to rest for four months on its lees; the result is a template of modern Châteauneuf -du -Pape Blanc. This is a genuinely interesting wine, with notes of pineapple, vanilla and pear, tempered by spice, firm acidity and a balanced satisfying sensation en bouche.

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
