Domaine des Grands Fers Fleurie 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Situated in the heart of Fleurie the Domaine des Grands Fers has been in Christian Bernard's family since the turn of the last century. He wons a total of 10.3 hectares of Gamay planted on several different terroirs in the Cru. All are southeast facing slopes in the famous Madone terroir, les Garands and les Moriers. The classic Fleurie characteristics are the result of the incredible soils of crushed and crystalized ancient red granite. Christian ferments all his different terroirs separately, whole cluster, classic carbonic maceration for a twelve day period. After a 6 month elevage in oak foudres he blends his various plots into what becomes his signature Estate bottling. Being very careful in his selection only his best wine makes the final blend.

Nice raspberry nose which leads to a cool crisp mineral wine. Flavors of bramble and raspberry continue to the cinammon finish

A fantastic Cru Beaujolais from a phenomenal vintage, with lots of black fruit aromas and violets. It's just slightly tannic, and while this is a red wine to drink today, it certainly has enough structure to hold up to rich meat dishes.
