"My family, which was originally based in Gigondas in the region of the Vaucluse, has been cultivating vines throughout the southern Rhone Valley for over five generations. At the beginning of the last century, my maternal great-grandfather, August Chauvet, who was already a gold medal winner at the Paris Wine Show of 1900, was cultivating some 10 hectares of vines and several hectares of olive groves. His daughter, Juliette, married Gabriel Meffre, a young and ambitious winemaker from the neighbouring village of Seguret, and this couple would go on to become my grandparents. Gabriel and Juliette took upon themselves to uproot the olive groves in order to convert all of their land to viticulture, and it is from this act that our emblem of an olive tree sprouting a vine leaf is derived and adorns all of our bottles. Early in his career my grandfather shrewdly recognized the potential of the southern Rhone Valley for growers who were willing to expand. With his ambition, vision and the sheer force of effort he would go on to become by the time of his death, in 1987, the largest landowner of appellation contrôlée vines in France, owning over 900 hectares throughout the region. Duly recognised as one of the pioneers of furthering the prosperity and international recognition of the region, his daughter Slyvette proudly assumed control of the destiny of several of the properties inherited upon his death. These include Château de Vaudieu in Chateauneuf du Pape, which was acquired in 1955; Domaine des Bosquets in Gigondas, bought in 1963 and which was once owned by my grandmother's family prior to the 1860s; Château de la Coulerette in La Londe les Maures which was purchased in 1969 and Domaine de la Jerôme. In 1990 I joined together with my mother, Slyvette, in managing these properties and created the Famille Bréchet group of wineries. Retaining a family managed entity reflects our will to continue my family's traditional respect for quality and guarantees the future success and identity of each respective winery." Read less

The 2011 Gigondas is a resounding success in the vintage. A blend of 70% Grenache and the balance Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault, aged in a combination of older barrels and concrete, it offers up gorgeous cassis, black raspberry, spice-box and melted licorice to go with a medium to full-bodied, beautifully fruited and textured profile on the palate. Showing sweet tannin on the finish, this knockout Gigondas can be enjoyed anytime over the coming 7–8 years.

Very sleek, with notes of raspberry, cherry preserves, blood orange and singed apple wood seamlessly layered and carrying through a silky, refined, iron-accented finish. Drink now through 2017.

Bright red. Dark berries, Asian spices, potpourri and smoky minerals on the perfumed nose. Silky and open-knit, offering sweet dark berry flavors underscored by juicy acidity. Shows very good energy and silky, even tannins on the fruit-driven, persistent finish.

Vintage: 2009 09/24/2011

This is powerfully rendered, boasting dark fig, plum and blackberry fruit flavors spiked with sweet spice, licorice snap and mesquite notes. Rich and rounded in feel, but the cut is there, and this should cruise nicely in the cellar. From the Bréchet... Wine Spectator. A Proprietary Blend wine from Rhone in France. 2009 Bosquets, Domaine des Gigondas 750ml
