Domaine de Terres Dorees Jean-Paul Brun Morgon 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

This Domaine de Terres Dorees (Jean-Paul Brun) Morgon shows the serious side of Beaujolais. One of the best producers in the village of Morgon, which are more robust multi-layered wines. This 2011 is an ideal example of this great appellation. Rich ripe cherry and blackberry fruit with high toned notes of kirsch, and a toasty nut finish with lots of chalky minerality. This is a remarkable wine!

Deep ruby. Musky, spice-tinged raspberry and cherry aromas are complemented by smoky minerals and peppery spices. Perfumed and focused on the palate, offering juicy red and dark berry flavors and a hint of spicecake. The mineral quality repeats emphatically on the long, sappy finish, which is nicely framed by smooth tannins.

The 2012 Morgon Les Terres Dorees has a crisp green bell pepper bouquet that you might mistake as a fine Chinon. The palate is well-balanced and refined, quite tannic for a Morgon but adorned with a crisp and masculine, foursquare finish the leaves the mouth fresh and reinvigorated. Delicious and classy. Drink 2014–2025+.
