The nose showed currants, raspberry, rosemary and lavender. On the palate it was juicy throughout with a medium body, showing soft medicinal cherry fruit and a pleasant medium-long finish. Incredibly drinkable and fun, yet it seems to me that this wine doesn't warrant the price tag. (90 points)

Deep red. Fresh red berries and cherry on the nose, with complicating notes of dried flowers and herbs. Peppery, sharply focused raspberry and bitter cherry flavors are lifted by zesty minerality and show a Burgundian personality. Silky tannins add grip to the nicely persistent, juicy finish. This is in bottle and ready to drink. The light ruby-colored 2008 Chateauneuf du Pape is a classic, quintessential wine of Provence. Notes of lavender, roasted herbs and sweet kirsch are offered in a soft, seductive, round, medium-bodied, sexy style displaying lots of fruit. Enjoy it over the next 5-6 years. ** Only 11 in Stock **

The 2008 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Auguste Favier is composed of 85% Grenache and 15% Cinsault. Among the deepest, richest, and fullest of the 2008s I tasted, it offers ripe scents of berry fruit, licorice, herbs, and pepper followed by a medium to full-bodied wine with beautiful purity, depth, and richness. Enjoy it over the next decade. Ruby-red. Exotic perfume of red berry preserves, garrigue, minerals and Asian spices. Juicy red fruit flavors are framed by silky tannins and pick up a note of candied flowers with aeration. Very suave, supple wine with resonating notes of red fruit and flowers on the aftertaste. ** Only 5 in Stock **

No Chateauneuf du Pape Collection Charles Giraud was made in 2008 because of the challenges of the vintage, but a fine 2008 Chateauneuf du Pape was produced from a blend of 80% Grenache and the rest equal parts Mourvedre, Syrah, and Cinsault. Half of this cuvee is aged in cement tanks and half in 600-liter demi-muids. A strong effort for the vintage, it exhibits a deep ruby/purple hue as well as plenty of black cherry, roasted herb, licorice, and spice box notes. Medium-bodied and richly fruity, it should be a real charmer in its youth, and drink well for 7-8 years.

The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape (80% Grenache and the rest equal parts Mourvedre, Syrah and Cinsault aged in concrete and demi-muids) exhibits a deep ruby color along with a big, sweet, jammy nose of red and black currants, kirsch, Provencal herbs, licorice and spice box. Medium to full-bodied, soft and round, it is ideal for drinking over the next 5ndash;6 years

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Classique is 85% Grenache and the rest Cinsault and Mourvedre. Eighty percent is aged in tank and the rest in two- to three-year-old demi-muids. This wine displays a dense purple color along with notes of bay leaf, tobacco leaf, cassis, kirsch, licorice and subtle smoke. This is a delicious, precise, elegant style of Chateauneuf du Pape...90-92" WA 10/11 "(based on 85% grenache and made from the estate's young vines; already in bottle): Bright ruby. Highly scented aromas of red berries and flowers, with a spicy quality gaining strength with air. Juicy and forward in the mouth, offering intense strawberry and raspberry flavors and no rough edges. Shows the vibrancy of the vintage to full effect and finishes with impressive clarity and tangy bite...92" IWC 02/12 "An inviting, silky style, with alluring raspberry, steeped red currant and damson plum notes all gliding along, supported by hints of ganache, anise and mocha. Latent grip keeps this honest. Approachable already, but has the balance to age nicely....91" WS 09/12 "The 2010 Domaine Saint Préfert Châteauneuf-du-Pape is also knockout stuff. A blend of 85% Grenache, 5% Cinsault, 5% Syrah, and 5% Mourvedre (the Grenache sees only cement tank, while the others are aged in larger oak barrels) that comes from the estate‟s younger vines (< 30 years), it offers loads of spice, framboise, and licorice aromas and flavors to go with a medium to full-bodied, beautifully textured mouth feel, ripe tannin, and an overall balanced, elegant profile....93" RR 10/12
