External Reviews for Domaine de Nalys Grenache Blend Châteauneuf-du-Pape
The 1998 Chacirc;teauneuf du Pape is excellent. One of the finest traditional cuvees Nalys has produced over recent vintages, it exhibits a dark ruby/plum color, as well as an impressive bouquet of sweet, candied strawberry and cherry fruit intermixed with pepper, dried herbs, and leather. The wine is sweet, rich, and fat, with kirsch liqueur, medium to full body, a nicely layered texture, well-integrated tannin, and a silky finish. My notes read ldquo;cherry liqueur galore.rdquo; Anticipated maturity: nowndash;2010.
Bright ruby. Fresh red berry and cherry aromas are complemented by tobacco and garrigue nuances. Energetic and spicy, with good mineral cut to the sweet red berry flavors. This taut wine needs some time to gain flesh but looks pretty promising.
A pretty Chacirc;teauneuf, this has freshness to its raspberry fruit and a slight floral note that gives delicacy to its firm, stony structure. Itrsquo;s light for the appellation but lush, ready for pork roasts.
Like most wines made at Nalys, this Chateauneuf du Pape is the product of whole-berry fermentation. It reveals sexy up-front, round and fruity notes, in an elegant but lush, ample style thatandrsquo;s meant for drinking in its first 4andndash;6 years of life. This tasty wine is hard to criticize. Just drink it early on.
Deep ruby. Vibrant red berry and cherry aromas are complemented by fresh rose, lavender and baking spices. Thereandrsquo;s something seductively pinot-like about this, with its sweet strawberry and raspberry flavors possessing good depth and delineation and finishing with impressive sappy persistence. It would be no sin to start drinking this soon after release.
A touch rustic, with burly tannins and a braised chestnut note woven into the dark currant, fig and coffee notes. Fleshes out a bit on the finish. Drink now through 2013.
Dom. de Nalys is one of the more approachable Châteauneuf du Pape. Made from mostly Grenache and Syrah, with 10 other varietals in small quantities. Plum and spice notes, with velvet tannins on the finish.
