Add your reviewAUD$28 from Cloudwine. The entry level label for the more expressive Cairanne Cotes du Rhone Villages wines from l’Oratoire St Martin. The winery operates biodynamically and has plantings of Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah. The 2010 Cotes du Rhone is a 80/20 blend of Grenache and Syrah from 30 year old vines planted on limestone and clay soils. Intense black ruby colour, it has youthful smoky strawberry aromas on a weighter core of blackcurrant and raspberry. Silky texture, dry full-bodied wine with rich dense dark berry flavours. 14.5% alc. Plenty of acid that prevents the palate from tiring out from the fruit weight, fine tannins which have started to resolve and aren’t too much of a hindrance now. Very nice wine that can still be cellared for a couple more years. Drink 2015 – 2020.
Black tar and olive nose. I think this threw me at first but it's quite unique and worth a sip. There's a lot of fruit on the attack, followed by flavors of tar and a bit of licorice on the finish. Decently tannic.

From 15 year-old vines grown in limestone and clay soils. Bottling is done without filtration. Harvesting and sorting is done by hand, and the grapes are fermented for 8 days in large vats. The wine is beautifully lush, with ripe fruit, balanced acidity and hints of minerals and earth.
