Domaine de l'Hortus Coteaux du Languedoc Grand Cuvée Coteaux du Languedoc 2006

The colour on this wine is a very dense, dark purple. It's tight on the nose with aromas of dark fruit and a clear earthiness, hints of oak and chocolate. The palate is also tight, with much structure. Tannins are quite grippy. Fruits and oak comes through on the finish, which is quite long. There is potential here, I'd say this needs a year in the cellar to mature and set, and should evolve further over the next five or six. Will pair very well with more complex dishes with for instance lamb - a great alternative to a Rhône of the same style and blend.

Nice to visit. In a stunning region of France the wine makery and vinyard are situated just of the main road. The tasting room is above the botteling line, which gives a true feeling of authenticity.
