(These notes refer to the second bottle tasted - see purple prose 2002.) Even deeper crimson than the Romanée St Vivant with an extremely powerful, almost crème brûlée nose. Vital essence of red burgundy yet without any exaggerated winemaking getting in the way of great, great terroir. Very broad, very pure, even a hint of soy sauce, bizarrely (or is this my recently activated umami sense?), and hazelnuts in this extremely vivacious young wine. Aubert described it as 'le style 1990-plus'. A fantastic wine with a great, great future. Should probably not be broached until the next read more...
