What to Expect

Pinot Noir: Responsible for some of the greatest wines on earth - the exhausted red wines of France's Burgundy region. Pinot Noir is a notoriously fickle grape that expresses its origins like no other. It's a vine that needs to struggle to produce great wines but when it does the depth of flavors that range from cherry to cola can be explosive and the wines' bright acidity and gentle tannins make them approachable and widely appealing,

Winemakers Notes

"Not yet racked. Here is some of the most perfectly ripe fruit I have ever sampled in a young wine. Amazingly pure and complex and balanced and lovely. Fullish body. No obvious tannins. Very rich and ripe and well covered. Very, very long. Very, very classy indeed. A great wine! From 2015." (Clive Coates - The Vine - Dec 2000)

Jancis

(These notes refer to the second bottle tasted - see purple prose 2002.) Even deeper crimson than the Romanée St Vivant with an extremely powerful, almost crème brûlée nose. Vital essence of red burgundy yet without any exaggerated winemaking getting in the way of great, great terroir. Very broad, very pure, even a hint of soy sauce, bizarrely (or is this my recently activated umami sense?), and hazelnuts in this extremely vivacious young wine. Aubert described it as 'le style 1990-plus'. A fantastic wine with a great, great future. Should probably not be broached until the next read more...

Full ruby-red. Even riper aromas of crystallized raspberry, cassis and licorice. Then quite clenched, even a bit brutal, and dominated by its firm structure; very dense but unusually unfortcoming for La Tache at this stage of it's development. Theis was the last '98 to finish its malolactic fermentation, de Villaine noted. Best today on the very long finish; the firm tannins coat the entire palate.

The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 La Tache has sweet, tangy raspberry, black currant, candied cherry, leather, and spice aromas. This medium to full-bodied wine is harmonious, refined, and powerful. It is expansive, magnificently delineated, and f... Robert Parker. A Pinot Noir wine from Burgundy in France. 1999 Romanee Conti, Domaine de la La Tache Grand Cru 750ml
